Tuesday Fatal Crash:

 

At 3:35 p.m., US 385, mm 87, at the Sheridan Lake Fishing Pulloff, Michael Weissman, 44, Glendale, AZ was driving his motorcycle as part of group northbound on US 385. As the group started to turn into the Sheridan Lake Fishing Pulloff, Weissman lost control of his motorcycle. Both the driver and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. The passenger, Destiny Smith, 31, Glendale, AZ, was thrown into the southbound traffic lane where she was hit by another  motorcycle. Smith was killed. No helmets were used and alcohol was not a factor.

 

Tuesday Injury Crashes:

 

At 12:26 p.m., I-90, mm 58, William Fauver, 50, was driving a motorcycle east on I-90 when he lost control. The motorcycle crossed the line and hit another eastbound motorcycle driven by Mitchell Cox, 49, Granite Falls, WA.  Regan, Cox and Wendy Cox, 48, Granite Falls, WA, who was the passenger on the Cox motorcycle, all suffered serious non-life threatening injuries.

At 1:17 p.m., SD 87, mm 54, Garry Faichney, 72, was driving his motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a turn and lost control. Faichney sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol was not a factor. A helmet was not used.

At 3:20 p.m., US 85, mm 96, 40 miles north of Belle Fourche, Javier Marquez, 45, Hobbs, NM, was driving his motorcycle northbound on US 85, when he lost control, veered into the southbound lane and struck the west guardrail cables. Marquez became separated from his motorcycle and sustained life threatening injuries. A helmet was not used.

At 5:54 p.m., US 16, mm 57, Rockerville Road, Keith Rhodes, 69, Calgary, Alberta, stopped at the stop sign on Rockerville Road at the intersection of US 16. As Rhodes pulled out onto US 16, he hit a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by DaAnn Piglowski, 66, Custer, SD. Rhodes sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. The two occupants of the car were not injured and were wearing seatbelts. Rhodes was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash.

At 6:35 p.m., I-90, mm 215, two miles east of Vivian, Rudy Hofmann, 52, Laguna Hills, CA was driving his 1999 Mercury Mountaineer westbound when the vehicle blew a tire. Hofmann lost control of the vehicle which went into the ditch and rolled. Hofmann sustained minor injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.

At 9:37 p.m., US 16, mm 7, 20 miles west of Custer, James Reighard, 28, Roaming Shores, OH, was driving a motorcycle west when he hit a coyote running across the road. Reighard lost control and was thrown from his motorcycle. He suffered minor injuries. He was wearing a helmet. Alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash.

At 10:44 p.m., at intersection of SD 240 and SD 248, Cactus Flats, Ty Cantrell, 22, Philip, SD, was driving a pickup pulling a horse trailer east on Old NE Road. The vehicle stopped at the stop sign and proceeded to turn onto SD 248. The pickup collided with a motorcycle driven by Jane Nye, 66, Palm Bay, FL. Nye suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. She was wearing a helmet. Cantrell was cited for stop sign violation.

At 12:11 a.m. Wednesday,  I-90/Elk Vale Road, Timothy Meyers, 48, Halifax, PA was driving a motorcycle that exited I-90 and was northbound on Elk Vale Road. The motorcycle turned onto the southbound side of the road, going the wrong way, headed north in the southbound lanes. Meyers lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle. He suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. A helmet was not used. Meyers was arrested for DUI first and careless driving.

 

Other Noteworthy Events:

 At 3:07 p.m., on I-90, mm 76, 10 miles east of Rapid City, a trooper stopped a vehicle for a traffic offense. An investigation led to the discovery of prescription drugs and a gun later founds to be stolen. The driver, Kiet Nguyen, 27, Fort Arthur, TX, was arrested for possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The passenger, Pham Phu, 24, Arlington, TX was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
